Vaping: Is It Considered a Sin?

Vaping

With the advancing technology nowadays, it is no wonder that technology would always put something up that will catch ourselves off-guard. According to what E Juice experts say, a new replacement for cigarettes has been invented recently that’s among the hype to youths—called vape pens. Like cigarettes, it also has the presence of nicotine which is highly addictive. Now, the question is, is vaping considered a sin?

Vaping in a Nutshell

Vaping—otherwise known as vape pens, JUUL and e-cigarettes—are those devices that look like a thin flash drive or pen that is battery-operated. These devices copy cigarettes by heating liquids that usually contain nicotine.

However, compared to cigarettes that release tobacco smoke, vaping releases vaporized particles which are usually fragrant. Most people think that this mist is clean, but in reality, it contains a lot of chemicals that are hazardous to health. The dangers of vaping are similar to that of second-hand smoke.

Vape pens set off unknown matter into the lungs, putting a strain on the respiratory system. Therefore it makes it difficult for the lungs to filter the particles while processing the air for people to breathe. These particles are often settled in the lungs, which then lead to illness, cancer and disease.

Is Vaping a Sin according to the Bible?

Aside from the health controversy concerning the use of vape pens, it is also a wonder to ask whether vaping is considered a sin. Though there’s no specific verse in the Bible that talks about smoking or vaping, we can consider Corinthians 6:12. In this verse, it tells us that nothing must master over us. Apostle Paul who wrote the book, tells us that we have the freedom to do anything, but that doesn’t mean that it should enslave us or cause us to have an addiction over it.

As one who wants to follow Christ, we should avoid anything that causes us to be apart from Christ. If not, it will only lead us to lose self-control. In Galatians 5:1, it states that “For freedom, Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” Rather than being in control of our body, the addiction to anything will take control of us and influence our language and actions.

Another verse tells us about taking care of our body. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, it states that our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit; therefore, you must glorify God by taking care of your body. Vaping has a lot of health concerns and can bring about a lot of dangers in our body. Therefore it contradicts the Word of God as our body must be the temple of the Holy Spirit from God.

Final Thoughts

In decisions like this, we need to use our willpower and the guidance of God so we will not be apart from Him. Sinning will cause us to be away from God who created us, so we need to be wise and think carefully. Above all, as written in the scriptures, we should glorify God with our body. So think twice before doing something and always seek God for guidance.
