It’s actually the other way around, Presbyterians believe one is predestined – intuitu fide, in view of the faith they will have (which they say God does cause) or conversely that God elects others to damnation in view of their unbelief. Lutherans reject this, rather we confess that God’s predestination “is a cause which creates, effects, helps, and furthers our salvation and whatever pertains to it.” (Formula of Concord – Solid Declaration, Article XI.8) Lutherans however, reject the notion that God has predestined some to damnation. We believe this because God is not the author or cause of evil. Furthermore, Scripture only teaches that God predestines those who will be saved.
